Awesome Foods, makers of gluten-free, raw, vegan snacks and prepared foods needed a new website with a refreshed design and an open-source shopping cart. The old site was dated and unresponsive with an ASP shopping cart which lacked a friendly user-interface on modern browsing devices. This is just the veganning.

THE RAW STORY

Drawing from the company’s brand identity guide and color palette used on their packaging, we redesigned the site to have a modern look and extended their established brand to the web. The new site had to be responsive and adapt to display on all different types of devices with ease. Many web design companies would approach this task by purchasing an off-the-shelf, pre-made theme. Not us, our team did what they always do and built a certified organic, locally grown, custom theme with a WooCommerce integration.

WHAT THE FUDGE?

Awesome Foods proved to have the most complex shipping logic we’ve been challenged with to date. The checkout process had to take into account that prepared foods require a timely delivery in a temperature controlled package and that shelf-stable products can be shipped in boxes which do not need to be cooled.

Since refrigerated foods and desserts are shipped in an insulated box with ice packs that only stay cold for two days, free shipping could only be offered on orders with refrigerated items of $49 or more within the one and two day Fedex delivery zones from the Philadelphia area. Aside from the ground shipping restrictions, the logic also had to account for the additional weight and size of the package.

ON-BOARDING & ONGOING MARKETING

One of the post-launch requirements was to establish an on-boarding campaign. Using incentives and special offers, we created an email campaign to attract new customers and continually reach out to existing customers.
