Alliance is a manufacturer and distributor of concrete pumps and ancillary products with a range that spans all across North America. But, despite being an international distributor, their corporate website lacked any form of e-commerce capabilities — customers had to order components by phone. That was the big problem we sought to solve with their new webstore site, and a fully customized WooCommerce installation was our solution.

A Separate E-Commerce Site

Alliance was looking to create an online storefront that was wholly separate from their existing corporate site. This way, the shop could be the primary focus of the site instead of being tucked away on the internal pages of a larger site. When a potential customer lands on this site, they’re easily able to locate the products they need and proceed to checkout without extra steps getting in the way.

Customized WooCommerce Experience

WooCommerce as a platform is just as varied as WordPress itself is. There are thousands of plugins that provide additional features, and its open source nature means that it can be customized to no end. Alliance has the most customized and upgraded WooCommerce shop we’ve built. It includes a whole host of additional features that consumers expect from online storefronts, including recommended or suggested products, automated shipment tracking number emails, and product delivery confirmation.

Another part of the WooCommerce experience that had to be customized for Alliance was how their storefront needed to be set up with multiple currencies and shipping regions in mind. Depending on where the customers are, the products may either be shipped out of the Canadian or US location.

Quality of Life Features

Along with the shop features that were necessary for Alliance’s operations, we implemented many quality of life features they wanted that aren’t standard with WooCommerce. One such feature is the quick view popup that provides additional information on each product. Another is the advanced filter sticky sidebar to make it easier to locate the components customers need. And there’s also the slide-out cart that makes it easy to see what items a customer has already selected.

Building Upon Our Foundation

While WooCommerce is nothing new for our team, it’s safe to say that the Alliance site pushed us to acquire an even deeper understanding of the platform. Many of the features included in this build, such as product bundling, were new to us when we began working on the project. But now, we’ve built upon our foundation and have an even greater understanding of what can be done with WooCommerce.
